The Havana 500 Anniversary poster is a hand-signed, dry-stamped, and numbered silkscreen print (serigraph) by Daniel ‘Tito’ Quintana, presented unlined and in excellent condition. Now based in Miami, Quintana was born and raised in Cuba and studied architecture at the Technological University of Havana (CUJAE). His work brings together architectural research and graphic design, resulting in a critical and interdisciplinary approach to imagemaking.
This limited-edition print was commissioned for Habana 500, a multidisciplinary exhibition held at Fábrica de Arte Cubano in Havana from November 15 to December 31, 2019. Curated by Jorge Ayala-Isaza and presented in collaboration with the Havana-based design collective Nocturnal, the exhibition combined graphic design and documentary film to reframe Havana beyond the tourist gaze. The Habana 500 anniversary poster, along with others in the series, accompanied a short observational film about a specific neighbourhood. Each participating artist drew inspiration from the architecture, history, and everyday life of the areas they represented.
