Description

This La Piscine film poster reimagines Jacques Deray’s 1969 psychological thriller as a vibrant contemporary print, channeling the sensual tension and aesthetic precision of the original film.

Set in the sultry confines of a villa in the South of France, La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) explores the simmering complexities of a love triangle turned psychological powder keg. Starring Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, the film builds an atmosphere of quiet dread beneath a veneer of Mediterranean leisure. Jealousy, suspicion, and past relationships bubble to the surface, culminating in a chilling act of violence by the pool.

Croatian illustrator Luka Duplančić distills these narrative undercurrents into a stunning minimalist composition. His interpretation of the La Piscine film poster abandons the usual depiction of characters, focusing instead on setting, mood, and silence. The serene pool, lush palms, and stark lines evoke both escapist beauty and emotional repression. Duplančić’s use of sharp geometry and flat color draws from both mid-century modern design and cinematic framing, delivering a fresh yet faithful homage to Deray’s sun-drenched thriller.

This limited edition digital print was produced as part of NoMAD MOVIE ART 2024 – Film Classics through the Eyes of Croatian Authors, a collaboration between NOMAD.ART and the Mediterranean Film Festival Split (FMFS). The series invites visual artists to reinterpret European film classics through a graphic lens, and this La Piscine poster is among the most visually striking contributions.
